SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of Child Protect Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and is responsible for the leadership and overall management of the CAC in compliance with the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Center accreditation standards. Child Protect serves children and families residing in Montgomery County that have been a victim of sexual or physical child abuse.

This is a full-time position. Key responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the CAC, overseeing multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), ensuring financial sustainability of the CAC through fundraising, grant writing, effective management of expense and staff and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with law enforcement, Department of Human Resources and other community agencies serving children and families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Planning
Preparing for the future is one of the most crucial leadership responsibilities of the Executive Director. Working with the board, the Executive Director must develop a shared vision for the future of Child Protect, build understanding around the mission, and develop appropriate goals and strategies to advance that mission.

Fundraising
The Executive Director, in partnership with the board and appropriate staff, is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies that enable Child Protect to meet its financial development goals and carry out its program and operations toward the objectives outlined in the strategic plan.

Administration
The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Child Protect. The Executive Director works with staff to develop, maintain, and use systems and resources that facilitate the effective operations of Child Protect toward the objectives outlined in the strategic plan and in compliance with the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Center Standards of Accreditation.

Board Relations
The Executive Director and Board must maintain a strong partnership for Child Protect to thrive. Both the Executive Director and the Board draw upon its own unique strengths and abilities in providing leadership to the organization. The Executive Director and board have joint responsibility for developing and maintaining a strong working relationship and a system for sharing information that enables the board to effectively carry out its governance role.

Communications and Public Relations
The Executive Director serves as a primary spokesperson and public face for Child Protect. This role has three major components: effectively promoting Child Protect, advocating for the mission and the work of Child Protect, and building relationships with partner agencies, the community, and donors critical to the success of the organization. 
 
Financial Management
The Executive Director ensures that resources are managed wisely. The Executive Director’s role is to see that the Child Protect goals and strategic plan serve as the basis for sound financial management, that solid budgeting and accounting systems are in place, and that appropriate financial controls and risk-management strategies guarding the assets of Child Protect.

Grant Management and Compliance
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of grant development, implementation, and compliance. This includes identifying funding opportunities, leading the preparation and submission of grant applications, and ensuring all grant requirements are met in accordance with funder expectations and applicable regulations. The Executive Director works with staff and the board to align grant funding with organizational priorities and strategic goals. The Executive Director also ensures accurate and timely reporting, maintains appropriate documentation, and monitors grant-funded activities to ensure compliance and program effectiveness.

Leadership and Collaboration
The Executive Director must earn the respect of the multidisciplinary team and foster open, positive relationships with law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, and partner agencies, while promoting best practices for child abuse investigations in Montgomery County, Alabama. The Executive Director also builds and maintains strong partnerships within the CAC environment, including, but not limited to, the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers and the National Children’s Alliance.
The Executive Director demonstrates professional leadership in support of the mission of Child Protect, promotes a positive image of the organization within the community, and cultivates leadership at all levels of the organization.

Management and Supervisory Responsibilities
The Executive Director customarily and routinely exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of his or her duties and regularly directs the work of all employees. The Executive Director is responsible for the hiring, advancement, promotion, termination, or any other change of status of all employees.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS  
Education: A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, criminal justice, or related field is required. A master’s degree in social work, public administration, or related field is preferred.

Experience: Five years of management experience required. Previous non-profit Executive Director and / or Children’s Advocacy Center management experience preferred.

Skills: A strong leader with proven skills in management, fundraising and active community engagement is required. Previous experience in Children’s Advocacy Center program development, public policy, interagency collaboration, financial and non-profit management is strongly preferred. Previous professional experience with the criminal justice or child welfare system in child abuse and family violence is preferred.
 
OTHER
Exempt employees must be able to work flexible hours and to be on-call for emergency situations. Evening and weekend hours are routinely required. All employees must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurance. The position does involve travel throughout Central Alabama. All employees must submit to a criminal history background check prior to being hired.
